Marketplace Theology Program
In
addition to course offerings and a concentration
in the area of Marketplace Theology, Regent College promotes several
other projects and connections to facilitate the integration of
Christian faith in the marketplace:
- Conferences: A regular cycle of conferences
and events are offered that serve to integrate Christian
faith and societal careers and ministries. Our annual conference is entitled Christian in the Marketplace.
- Immersions on the Vancouver Campus: Business and professional people may take a short or long immersion on the Vancouver campus for the purpose of vocational reassessment, processing occupational transition, or taking a focused study sabbatical. Early in the immersion, the participant will develop a learning plan for the time, including: attending courses on the campus, interviews with faculty, an assigned mentor and/or spiritual director, a directed reading program and interviewing local resource people in business.
- Businessperson in Residence: This program allows an experienced businessperson to relate to the faculty and student body in a learning and ministering capacity, attending lectures, networking with students from the marketplace, hosting learning groups based on various occupations, interacting with faculty to facilitate integration.
- Marketplace Cohorts: Regent College partners with churches, businesses and parachurch organizations to offer an integrated community-based learning experience in cities around the world. These normally consist of around five modules each lasting two to three days and spread over a six-to-nine-month period. Regent faculty facilitate collaborative learning, dialogue and mutual mentoring.
- Vocational Discernment: In today’s world most people are in fairly continuous vocational transition. Regent’s marketplace program provides resources for people to help discern their personal missions and craft a career as part of their calling. Usually offered in a weekend format or as a one- or two-day seminar, Regent offers a reflective experience in discernment assuming the largest understanding of calling: the invitation of God to live and work all of life before him.
- Continuous Studies Resources: A range of extension course material in Marketplace Ministry are available or in production for credit or audit and for use by small groups in a church or business setting.
