PROGRESS & UPDATES
|
News Archive: December 2005Update: Campaign Donations and PledgesWe are thankful and pleased to report that as of December 14, $12.2 million has been given or pledged to the Writing the Next Chapter capital campaign! This represents 84% of our campaign goal of $14.5 million – a wonderful place to be as we leave work behind to focus on the celebration of Jesus’ birth. Construction Has Begun! The exterior of Regent College has changed, seemingly overnight. Construction has commenced much to the delight of staff and faculty. December exams were moved out of the chapel, near potential disruption and into other rooms throughout the building and elsewhere. Thankfully, the noise has been quite limited and has not disrupted exams at all. The trees were inspected a few weeks ago and the majority were found to be diseased. Predicting that the trees would die in a couple of years, even with intensive care, we will replace them when the new park is constructed in the Spring. The concrete of the park has been pulled up and is being broken down into pieces to be reused as filler in constructions sites – including ours. The huge backhoes are not wasting a moment from 7am till dark digging up dirt. In addition, we are upgrading our Web Camera so the pictures will be clearer as you view up-to-the-minute changes. An archive of construction pictures is now available by clicking here. The Student AppealAt the final chapel of 2005, the Regent College community gathered to sing, pray and learn together. The campaign office made an announcement that caused some confusion followed by some hearty laughs. In order to relay information to students regarding the funds raised for the new library, we offered a new “strategy”—a bake sale—in order to raise the last few million dollars. What campaign would be complete without a bake sale? Immediately after chapel we set up our table full of 30 dozen cookies baked by the campaign staff. We sold out of our cookies, including the especially delectable “$500,000 or best offer” cookies. The students had a good laugh, some sugar to keep them going through the day and were memorably updated on the campaign success to date. The next three monthsOver the next three months of the campaign, we will:
Thank you for your prayers and support over the last few months. We are encouraged to see the construction in progress and the heightened public awareness of the Writing the Next Chapter capital campaign. As we head into the final stages of the campaign, we invite you to continue praying with us that God would use this campaign to draw people closer to Him. We wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
