End of Year Note on Donations and Tax Receipts
Please note that cheques must be dated on or before Dec 31st (post-dated cheques do not count toward a 2009 receipt) and mailed donations must be post-marked no later than Dec 31; dropping the cheque into the neighbourhood mailbox on Dec 31st may not be sufficient as the mail may not get picked up by the post office and postmarked until Jan 2nd. It is the donor’s responsibility to take the envelope to a post office outlet and get it postmarked for Dec 31st. Donations can be dropped off in person at the Regent College bookstore up until Dec 31st at 3:00 pm.
Canadian Tax Relief for Charitable Giving
Charities play an invaluable role in assisting Canadians, and in contributing to our sense of community and to important projects in the cultural, education and social sectors. To encourage charitable giving, the Government of Canada’s 2006 Federal Budget proposes to eliminate capital gains tax on certain donations to charities.
Click here for more information from the Government of Canada website.

If you are a UK taxpayer, the Friends of Regent College Canada Trust can reclaim tax paid on your gift from the UK Government. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, then you may obtain tax relief for the payment in your self assessment tax return. This is accomplished through the Gift Aid System.
