Introduction to External Relations
Welcome
to the External Relations Department! We encompass
the various facets of Regent College which interact with our supporters,
prospective students, and the public. In other words, we
present the “public face” of Regent College, and
have the privilege of working with those who partner with us
financially, those who attend our public events, and those who
hope to join us as students.
In many institutions, the term “external relations” is
a synonym for fundraising. Our approach is different,
in that we see the entire department as facilitating the learning
experience that is central to the College’s mission. That
certainly includes fundraising, as one quarter of the
cost of educating our students is borne by our generous supporters. But
External Relations at Regent also encompasses relationships
with prospective and past students, through the Admissions
Office and Alumni
Affairs Office. Conferences and
the annual Laing Lectures are planned and coordinated by the
External Relations team, who also produce high quality publications
for all departments of the College and host our website.
In all these tasks, I am joined by an amazingly talented and
dedicated staff, and I invite you to browse these pages to meet
the individuals who make External Relations work. I hope
you will catch a glimpse of what God is doing here, and be tempted
to join us in whatever capacity best suits you.
My
own affiliation with Regent College began in 1992, when I took
a two week course over the Christmas holidays. My
appetite for more theological study was whetted, and I returned
in 1995 as a full time student. Over the ensuing years,
I had the privilege of speaking at several Regent conferences,
sitting on an alumni board, and eventually joining the College’s
Board of Governors, all the while practicing law in Vancouver. In
2004, I accepted an invitation to join the College as Vice President
of External Relations, motivated by a desire to contribute toward
a new generation of students receiving the tremendous benefits
I’ve gained through my own experiences with Regent.
Please
feel free to contact us with any questions you may have, and
I trust you will find a place for yourself in the mission of
Regent College.
