Shannon Hunt
January 26, 1968 - November 18, 2004
The Regent community grieves with alumnus Steve Hunt (MCS ‘94) at the recent news of the death of his wife, Shannon, aged 36, on November 18, 2004. Shannon’s battle, with aggressive liver cancer, ended after only 35 days. Shannon leaves behind her four children: Nathaniel (11), Jordan (10), William (4 1/2) and Lindsey (2 1/2), her parents Tom and Janice Wright; brother, Thomas C. Wright, Jr., sister Karla Thomsen; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
During their Regent years, Shannon and Steve also formed deep, lasting friendships with fellow alums, Annie and Michael Wiseman-Floyd (MDiv ‘96) of North Carolina. Michael spoke at Shannon’s memorial service at the Hunt’s church in New Hampshire. Among his reflections at the service he writes:
“At a relatively young age, Jesus the man had spent most of his life in preparation for what he would give to the world. From the way he spent that short time, it is clear that the development of the hearts and minds and lives of a few people were his paramount concern… Shannon Hunt spent most of her life preparing to leave a blessing with us. The most important years of her life were only the last decade or so, when she focused the great balance of her attention, incredible gifts, and razor-sharp mind on a few people. The Christian community has always been called to build a civilization of justice, freedom, and mercy. I remember watching Jordan and Nathaniel playing with a gigantic Brio train set, and at the ages of four or five, had loaded the train’s cargo with food, being carried across hill and valley, to feed hungry people. The real trains near my home only carry things like coal. Shannon focused on developing people who would one day grow up and take trainloads of food to hungry people.”
