Anglican Studies Program Features
Fulfilling Regent Requirements on Location in Oxford
Regent College
students desiring to study at Wycliffe Hall need to be able to
meet the admission standards set by Oxford University. The course
requirements for Regent students are those set by Regent's
Master of Divinity degree. It is expected that some Anglican
studies courses will be taken on site in Oxford during the two
ten-week terms (which overlap with Oxford University's
academic terms)—late September to early December and
January through mid-March.
Requirements for Regent MDiv Students
Anglican ordination is
dependent upon candidates having the support of their local bishop
and meeting the requirements set by their bishop and diocese.
Ordinands who are under the supervision of a bishop will normally
complete the requirements of Regent's
Master of Divinity program. Within this program they will be
expected to complete specific courses in Anglican history,
theology and polity.
In addition, ordinands will be expected to take part in worship
at the College, carry out supervised ministry in parishes, and
come under the care of the Anglican chaplain at Regent College.
The Holistic Education of the Program
It is Regent College's
conviction that theological education is not achieved simply
within the context of academic courses; the ethos of both the
College and the program reflect this concern for a holistic formation
of Christian persons. Theological education involves spiritual
formation. It is an organic process which entails the totality
of learning, discourse, personal relationships, and involvement
in a worshipping and serving community.
Anglican Worship
All Regent College students are welcome to participate
in the Anglican worship which is part of this program. Worship
is central to the fostering of an integration of study and
faith. For those intent on ordination, these worship services
(including the weekly Eucharist) will afford practice in planning,
presiding and preaching. The rites used will be the Book of Common
Prayer and the Book of Alternative Services.
Chaplain
As mentioned above, the program's chaplain, the Rev. Jim Salladin, will be available to
students for advice, and as personal mentors.
Field Placement Program
The Regent Professor of Ministries will
handle field placements for participating Master of Divinity
students in consultation with the Anglican chaplain and with
co-operating bishops and clergy.
