New Faculty Appointments
Hans Boersma as the second incumbent of the James I. Packer Chair of Theology beginning in July 2005. Hans was born in the Netherlands and moved to Canada in his early twenties. Although he completed his undergraduate studies in the Netherlands, he completed another undergraduate degree at the University of Lethbridge before doing a Master of Divinity degree at the Theological College of the Canadian Reformed Churches in Hamilton, Ontario and a Master of Theology and a Doctor of Theology degree at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Since 1999 Hans has occupied an endowed chair for the Geneva Society for Reformational Worldview Studies at Trinity Western University in Langley, BC. Hans has written two major books: A Hot Pepper Corn: Richard Baxter’s Doctrine of Justification in Its Seventeenth-Century Context of Controversy (1993) and Violence, Hospitality, and the Cross: Reappropriating the Atonement Tradition (2004) in addition to a number of Bible study guides. He has also edited several books and published numerous academic articles. Hans and his wife, Linda, have five children and the Boersmas will continue to live in Langley, BC.
Sarah C. Williams as a faculty member in the area of church history at the rank of Associate Professor. Sarah did her undergraduate studies in history at Oxford University and her doctoral studies in the Oxford history faculty. Following her doctorate she accompanied her husband Paul to Vancouver while he studied at Regent College. After two years in Canada, Sarah returned to a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Birmingham before becoming fellow and tutor in modern history at Harris Manchester College at the University of Oxford. She is currently a member of both the history and theology faculties at Oxford and serves as a college tutor for both Lincoln and Trinity Colleges. Her area of research has been primarily in the area of 19th and 20th century religious culture. Her first book, Religious Belief and Popular Culture; Southwark c1880-1939 was published by Oxford University Press in 1999. Sarah, accompanied by her husband, Paul, and their two daughters, will arrive in late July to take up this position.
Paul S. Williams as the second incumbent of the David Brown Family Chair of Marketplace Theology and Leadership at the rank of Associate Professor. Paul did his undergraduate work at Oxford University in politics, philosophy and economics before proceeding to do a Master of Science in economics, again at Oxford. After several years work as an economist, he did a Master of Christian Studies degree at Regent College. After Regent he worked for a time as senior economist with a London-based think tank and then as an economic consultant. He is currently the chief economist, head of investor consulting and the head of international research for DTZ Holdings, an international property company based in London. Paul has written a number of articles on the intersection of faith in the public sphere and is looking forward to having time to teach and write in his new role at Regent. Paul, accompanied by his wife Sarah and their two daughters, will arrive in late July to take up this position.
