On Sabbatical, Fall Term 2006

Before joining Regent’s faculty in the fall of 2000, Phil Long taught for fifteen years at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to this position, he served for four years with Greater Europe Mission as Lecturer in Biblical Languages and Old Testament Exegesis at the Freie Theologische Akademie in West Germany. In addition to his degrees noted above, Phil has studied at the University of Heidelberg, West Germany and at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. His book publications include The Reign and Rejection of King Saul: A Case for Literary and Theological Coherence, The Art of Biblical History, the edited volumes Israel's Past in Present Research and Windows Into Old Testament History, and the co-authored work, A Biblical History of Israel. He has also served on several translation projects. Phil is an ordained teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church in America. He and his wife, Polly, have four children. His avocational interests include portrait and landscape painting, sports, and all types of fishing, hiking and camping.
